193 companies with Webuild, to bring high-speed trains to Sicily

Webuild is currently involved in building the Bicocca-Catenanuova section: 38 kilometres of rail, on a strategic line, connecting Palermo to Catania. The high-capacity line will reach a speed of 180 km/h, 90 km/h more compared to today’s. It will pass the funnel of the single track, present in the internal section of the route. Once completed, the work will allow travelling from Catania to the Sicilian capital in less than two hours.

The new Palermo-Catania section, therefore, will be a modern line, born from a complex and innovative project. Just for the Bicocca-Catenanuova section (from the Catania airport to the province of Enna) – 1.5 million cubic metres of earth will be moved.

The work will be carried out by Webuild with the support of 193 Italian companies, including suppliers and subcontractors. A flower of productive excellence that for 58% of the total are from Sicily, followed by Lombardy and Veneto. Companies but also university institutions, like the Centre for Applied Economics of the Engineering University of Catania, which studied how the work impacted the territory.

These are the numbers of the supply chain involved in a construction site that currently already employs 430 people, among direct and indirect workers, and whose aim is creating a strategic project for Sicily.
