NEW CONTRACT: March 2021
The second functional Taormina – Giampilieri lot, which extends for 28.4 km, is part of a new railway line, in the Messina – Catania section. Approximately 42.2 km long, it connects to the one existing before the current station of Fiumefreddo, subsequently reconnecting to the existing Giampilieri station.
The route of the new line develops mainly inside the tunnel. Compared to the existing line, it is located at a greater distance from the coast. The second functional lot involves building 8 single- and double-barrel natural tunnels, for a total of 25.3 km, 7 viaducts for a total length of 1.8 km, and the new Sant’Alessio/Santa Teresa station, also adapting the Letojanni one, and two new stops.
The project is not yet operational, as it was recently awarded in March 2021. To find out more, please refer to the press release
