Strategic infrastructure that contributes to Italy’s growth and renewal
In Italy, we are committed to designing and building innovative and sustainable projects, that are key to developing mobility across the peninsula and Europe, as well as reducing the environmental impact of urbanised areas. Such crucial infrastructure for mobility and transport and eco-sustainable buildings improve people’s lives, both today and tomorrow.
In 2019, Webuild launched Progetto Italia, an industrial operation aimed at reviving the Italian infrastructure sector, and creating value for the Company and its stakeholders. We have increased the Group’s size, technical and professional know-how, and financial strength by acquiring leading Italian companies in the sector. The most important operation conducted under Progetto Italia was the acquisition of Astaldi, the second largest builder in the country.
Our total direct and indirect employees
We are present on all 5 continents. We draw our strength from our people and their talents from all over the world. In 2021, we have more approximately 50,000 between direct, indirect and supply-chain employees on projects being carried out in Italy. Their numbers are forecast to grow, reaching around 58,000 by 2022.
Our innovative and sustainable projects worldwide
In Italy, we are building metro lines in Rome and Milan, railways and high-speed rail lines across the peninsula and green buildings to reduce the environmental impact of civil and industrial buildings in cities. Our global track record: 13,637 kilometres of rail and metro lines, 80,000 kilometres of roads, nearly 1,000 kilometres of bridges, 313 dams and hydroelectric plants.
Our construction backlog
€ 34.5 billion
After 115 years of building excellence, our Group keeps growing under Progetto Italia with the acquisition of Astaldi, becoming one of the largest construction companies in Europe. Our construction backlog has reached an estimated € 34.5 billion at June 30, 2021 with Astaldi’s contribution.
In the first half of 2021 Webuild won contracts in Italy worth approximately € 5 billion, more than 70% of which concern high-speed/high-capacity railways in the sustainable mobility segment, supported by investments in infrastructure under the National Plan of Recovery and Resilience (PNRR).
The commercial and operating results obtained by Webuild in the first half of the year reflect the synergies and greater scale that the Group has acquired with its integration of Astaldi. These results are also thanks to a strategy of virtuous collaboration with the entire supply chain of over 15,000 companies globally, industrial partners and a new collaborative approach between public and private that the Group applied with success during the construction of the Genoa Bridge, a model Webuild would like to continue to use to bring more efficiency to the construction process of other projects in Italy.
